Job Description - Real Time System RTS Design Engineer
Working as part of a growing design team, responsible for delivering Real Time Systems designs for 11kV to 132kV substation construction projects. Main Responsibilities Develop RTS design solutions that may range from single secondary substation distribution control systems to more complex multi-site data acquisition, monitoring & control systems. This will include the provision of end-to-end connectivity from the plant to the control SCADA over wide area networks via fibre optic, copper, or wireless technologies. Collaborate with other design disciplines to integrate RTS designs within overall project designs. Provide technical support & advice to other members of the design team. Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget. Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice. Conduct feasibility studies, site surveys, and risk assessments. Prepare and review project documentation, including method statements and technical reports. Provide technical guidance & support during both the tendering and the construction phase of projects & assist in resolving on-site issues. Carry out design risk assessments. Stay updated with the latest industry trends & technologies. Person Specification Qualifications A minimum of a bachelor?s degree in electrical or electronic engineering. Candidates with qualifications in other related fields or proven industry experience will be considered. Experience Minimum of 4 years civil engineering experience within RTS system engineering. Understanding of RTU & OTN systems. Proficient in SCADA systems. Previous substation design experience would be advantageous, but candidates with experience in other related construction industry industries will be considered. Experience of working within the Power Transmission or Distribution industry & in particular knowledge of SSEN or other DNO systems would be advantageous. Skills Experience in the use of Autocad &/or other similar CAD software advantageous, but not essential. Experience in the use of other relevant design software, including Microsoft Visio. Knowledge of commercial/contractual issues. Good written, verbal communication & interpersonal skills. Good time management, decision making & problem-solving skills. Good computer literacy, including use of Microsoft office-based applications (e.g. word, excel & outlook). Full UK driving licence.
